3 Reasons to do Pilates (that you may not have thought of)

In 10 sessions you’ll feel the difference, in 20 sessions you’ll see a difference, and in 30 sessions you’ll have a whole new body’ - Joseph Pilates

As with everything, consistency is key when it comes to Pilates. It’s unlikely that you will see results from the odd class here and there, but from a regular practise (I’d recommend twice a week), there are so many benefits.

The most commonly talked about benefits of Pilates include strengthening the whole body, with a particular focus on core stability. Most people see better flexibility, and corrected postural alignment. For some individuals Pilates is about reducing lower back pain, or rehabilitating after an injury.

Balance

In Pilates balance is not just about standing on one leg (although we do sometimes do that), but about finding a balance between strength and flexibility, and the mind and body working in harmony.

Reduce Stress

Did you know that through regular Pilates sessions, you will also be reducing stress, through careful concentration on each exercise you are allowing your mind to wind down and really focus on control through the movements.

Performance

Pilates is also a great method to boost performance in other exercise, through all of the above we are improving our ability to run faster and further, increasing power when cycling, and strengthening the deep stabilising muscles which are so important in all sports from tennis to weightlifting.

Everyone has their own reasons for doing Pilates, if you want to talk about your Pilates goals, and how to get the most out of your sessions then please do ask away!
